The 6-month internship at eMi² starts in mid-January and ends in mid-July. This season covers the extremes of winter and summer and also touches the beginning of monsoon – a great period to experience all of the seasons of India. The internship starts with orientation at EMI’s headquarters in the USA, followed by a South Asia-specific orientation once you arrive in India. After these times of equipping, you’ll be seeing India by rail with your project leader on the way to your first eMi² project trip, and then working with a team of volunteer design professionals to serve a South Asian ministry in the field. After getting back to the eMi² office, you’ll find a routine in relationships and work which will help you feel at home. As a veteran intern, you’ll be called on to join a second project trip and to help Project+ interns find their way around town.
Other highlights of the 6-month internship: eMi² group prayer days, several seminars on Indian culture / history, an intern group culture road-trip to a nearby city, intern holidays, and support of on-going or in-office projects.
6-month interns get a deeper experience of life, professional work, and ministry at eMi² in India. Relationships grow and deepen over the six months with your fellow interns, staff, your local church and community. You can learn to read and write in Hindi and you’ll be comfortable traveling by yourself to survey a new site or developing and revising concept designs for a client or preparing and publishing concept plans for a water and wastewater system. You’ll understand God and His Word in deeper ways and go away changed by Him through India. Come July, you may not want to go after all... No worries in that case, the experience can continue with a follow-up 4-month internship... A year isn’t too long to spend in India!
