Project Scope
The Shishya Society is located in North India, one of the most unreached areas of the world. It is a ministry that is focused on discipling children and young adults. What began as a home for orphans and children of leprosy parentage has now grown into a ministry serving a broad spectrum of needs, reaching out far into the surrounding community. With the intention of raising disciples of Jesus, the Shishya Society currently operates a children’s home, a K-8th grade school, a youth drop-in center and provides job training for villagers in the surrounding community. Many of the young people who graduate from their programs have gone on to do missions among the many unreached people of this nation.
Currently, 50 children are being cared for on the campus and the existing school enrolls over 300 children from surrounding villages. With the surrounding area experiencing an immense population growth recently, the school receives more than 3 times the number of applicants than it is able to accommodate. No other school in the area targets low-income families, but most importantly, the school openly communicates to both students and their families the life-giving message that Jesus is Lord.
The ministry has a vision for continued growth over the next 20 years and is eagerly awaiting the assistance of an EMI team that will be a part of bringing God’s vision for the people of this community into fruition. A master plan is needed as the ministry plans to increase their school to include 9-12th grades and up to at least 1000 students in the next five years. Also planned for the site are two hostels, an auditorium, a sports block, a training center, and a retreat center. Infrastructure for the site, primarily water and waste water handling, will also be planned by the EMI team. The team will provide a conceptual design of the future school building as part of this trip.
Please consider being a part of this team as we partner with the Shishya Society, joining God in his work of serving and educating the people of this community as he brings both freedom from physical poverty and spiritual darkness.
