Story
I was born & grew up in Hong Kong in an ordinary Chinese family. My parents and grandma are Buddhists. When I was a baby, I was sick a lot, so my grandma dedicated me to one of the Buddhas hoping that my health would improve. But I am very thankful that God planted a seed in my life at an early age despite my family religion. My aunt was the first believer in my family and she brought me to church when I was six. However, at that time I just simply believed that God created the world. When I was 15, I went to a youth summer camp. It wasn’t until then I realized and understood what it meant to be a follower of Christ - to have a personal close relationship with God and put Him first in my life.
A year later, I moved to New Zealand and studied there for six years. After I finished my architectural degree I shifted back to Hong Kong and started my career. As I joined a new church in Hong Kong, I started to serve at the missions committee. My desire to use my architectural skill to support mission works grew stronger and stronger during those 3 years in the committee and I started praying for opportunity. In the spring 1999, I came across EMI website. I was very excited since EMI’s vision is exactly what I have been wanting to pursue, to use my architectural skill to serve the body of Christ and the poor.
In 2000 May, I went on an EMI project trip as a volunteer for a week to Kolkata, India. It was a life changing experience and by the end of the trip, I felt that India is the place I should be. I asked the team to pray for me that I could come back, even though I don’t know how. The Lord answered the prayer and a year later, I came back to India as eMi2 intern for three months and then in February 2004, I Joined eMi2 as staff. In Nov 2007, the Lord blessed me with a loving husband and co-worker in Christ, Matthew Coffey, with whom I joyfully continue my services at eMi2 till now.
It still amazed me how God has enabled me to serve Him in such a way, to experience the joy of serving Him and seeing Him at work in different nations. No matter how small my contribution is, it is my privilege and joy to be part of his kingdom work.

After I graduated, I worked for a Hong Kong developer for 2 years, doing feasibility studies and development potential evaluation for different projects: high-rise residential, hotel, and office buildings. My second job was in a small architectural firm where I worked for 2 years. Projects include single high-rise residential building and youth campsite. Then I spent one year working for a medium size architectural firm. Projects include alteration works for airport and elderly centers, residential building and kindergarten. Since I joined EMI, I have the privilege to design schools, children’s homes, training and fellowship centers for different ministries in India.
