Family
Laura and I married in 2001, and have two young daughters – Sophia and Hannah. Both Laura and I grew up in Missouri and moved to Memphis at the time of our marriage.
Professional Training and Experience
I have a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Kansas State University (1997). Upon graduating, I worked for a brief period of time at a firm in Columbia, MO as I prepared to study through the SOM Traveling Fellowship. During the fellowship, I spent seven months traveling throughout Europe while studying community housing. Upon returning, I spent the next year and a half working at the firm in Columbia.
During that time I was involved in helping lead the youth group at my church. We took a trip to Memphis to serve with an urban home-repair ministry. I eventually felt the Lord’s leading to move to Memphis to work full-time with SOS. For the next five and a half years I helped coordinate and lead volunteers in home-repair work in the inner city of Memphis.
In 2004, Laura and I took an EMI trip together to India and the Lord began a process in our hearts that led us to join the eMi2 staff as the staff family in November of 2006.
If God told me to live long term in a cross-cultural setting, the country I would chose...
We have felt led to commit to a three-year term here in India. Prior to that we lived in the inner-city of Memphis, which is very much like a different country.
Verses to Live By
Matthew 6:31-33
“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
Luke 14:25-27,33
“Now great crowds accompanied [Jesus], and he turned and said to them, ‘If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple… So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.’” |
