Sheri's Story
I grew up in a loving Christian home in Michigan and gave my life to the Lord at the age of 3. As I grew up I discovered a growing passion for languages, culture, and the Body of Christ. This all came together in 1995 when I felt the Lord calling me to work cross-culturally. An internship in Nairobi, Kenya in 1996 confirmed my gifting, and I was eventually led to work for a research and publishing company in New Delhi, India. In 2000, I moved to Mussoorie, India to study language before beginning work in Delhi. While in language school, I met Shalom Lazarus who was already working with eMi2, and we married in New Delhi in 2003. I then moved back to Mussoorie to work with eMi2 training staff and interns to work in the Indian context.

My passion is the world and I'll take every opportunity to get to know people who are different from me. I have worked in many culture-related jobs including a micro-enterprise project in a slum in Nairobi, Kenya; coordinating exchange programs for American college students to Delhi, India; research on street children in Delhi; and "accent neutralization" for Indian call center employees. My role at eMi2 is to organize orientations and seminars for staff and interns in the India office. In the coming years, my role may expand to include more involvement with eMi's other offices world-wide.
If God told me to live long term in a cross-cultural setting, the country I would chose...
Anywhere! Right now, He has us living in North India and we're quite content to stay until He moves us on. I've been to 25 different countries, but I've never seen a place as diverse or fascinating as India . It is never boring! And the food is the best in the world. After so many years in India, I feel as at home here as in America.
Verses to Live By
Proverbs 16:9 "In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps." My life has not gone at all like I thought it would, but looking back, I can see his way is soooooooo much better! |
